Two new films this weekend in theaters to battle it out – for second place. Pixar’s Up will likely hang on to the top spot, netting $35-40 million in its second week. The other new films, Will Ferrell’s Land of the Lost and adult comedy The Hangover, will duke it out for second. We predict Land of the Lost with a $30 million take, while The Hangover will be behind at around $25 million. Night at the Museum should follow next with a $10-12 million haul. Also opening is My Life in Ruins, with Nia Vardalos (My Big Fat Greek Wedding) as she tries to capture lighting in a bottle a second time. Don’t expect anything more than $5 million or so.

Reviews haven’t been great, but the trailers look fun. Watch for a solid opening but we’ll see if this holds up.

The Hangover
Good trailer and solid early buzz may make this the ‘adult’ sleeper hit. Good word of mouth should help this do well.

My Life in Ruins
Nia Vardalos’ new film screams ‘chick flick’. Mediocre early reviews won’t stop the ladies from enjoying it. Also, Nia is looking great.

When you get invited to the set of a movie, you never know what’s going to happen or where it’s going to take place. I’ve been flown to Vancouver and Atlanta for set visits, I’ve also just had to drive a few miles to do much the same thing. Thankfully, going to visit the set of director Brad Silberling’s “Land of the Lost” required almost no effort. That’s because Universal decided to film a lot of the movie on their huge soundstages on their studio lot, and I live really close by. So when I got the invite last June to see how they were putting the movie together and watch some filming, I was extremely happy to just have to drive a few short miles. But before I jump into what I saw and did, I just want to make sure you’re all familiar with “Last of the Lost”. The film is based on the original classic television series created by Sid & Marty Krofft. The remake stars Will Ferrell as Dr. Rick Marshall, Danny McBride as a redneck survivalist, Anna Friel as a crack-smart research assistant, and Jorma Taccone as Chaka! – From Collider

Internet comedy site FunnyOrDie, supported by Will Ferrell and seeded by Sequoia Capital, has raised $3 million in cash from a single, undisclosed investor.
