Warner Bros. has acquired rights to turn the Japanese manga series “Death Note” into a live-action film. Story centers on a college student who accidentally finds a misplaced “death note,” infusing him with the power to kill merely by writing anyone’s name on the page while picturing the person in his mind. – from Variety

The Warners film version will focus on the first three volumes of the 13 volume series, and is being adapted by Charley and Vlas Parlapanides. Warner Bros. Japan produced the three Japanese Death Note films, but this version will be drawn from the manga, rather than the Japanese movies. – from Newsarama

The studio’s home entertainment division has come up with an innovative plan to allow custom ordering of 150 films never before released on DVD. Dubbed the Warner Archive Collection, an online vault of films including 1942’s “Once Upon a Honeymoon,” starring Cary Grant and Ginger Rogers, and 1947’s “Possessed,” with Clark Gable and Joan Crawford, can be tapped by consumers visiting WarnerArchive.com. – from THR
