“I’m very excited about this,” Bono told Mr. Cross about the RIM deal. “Research In Motion is going to give us what Apple wouldn’t — access to their labs and their people so we can do something really spectacular.”

Mr. Cross couldn’t believe his ears. Was RIM working on a special U2 application that would help the band interact with fans as part of its “U2 360″ tour?

U2 Plans another album later this year

u21U2’s new record, No Line on the Horizon, isn’t out until tomorrow, but the Irish rockers already have plans for another! The band told The New York Times they plan to release a companion album before the end of the year, which will have a more “meditative and processional” tone and will feature music drawn from the same recording sessions as No Line. Bono previously told NME that the band original planned for a dual release: “We were going to release two EP sets, Daylight and Darkness; we had all these ideas, but in the end we just took the best songs and made the one record.” – From Spin

No Line On The Horizon, the new studio album from U2, will be released on Monday 2nd March 2009.

Produced by Brian Eno, Danny Lanois and Steve Lillywhite, sessions for No Line On The Horizon began in Fez, Morocco, and continued at the band’s Dublin studio, New York’s Platinum Sound Recording Studios, and Olympic Studios in London.

The album will be released in a standard format with 24 page booklet and in digipak format. The digipak includes an extended booklet and the album’s companion film “Linear” by Anton Corbijn. A limited edition 64-page magazine will also be available, featuring the band in conversation with artist Catherine Owens, and new Anton Corbijn photographs. No Line On The Horizon will be released on 180gm vinyl.

Get On Your Boots, the first single from U2’s new album No Line On The Horizon, will be released as a digital download on February 15th with a physical format to follow on February 16th through Mercury/Universal.

TV Buzz: U2 books Letterman for a week; Housewives, Idol news; Starter Wife axed

USA Network is canceling The Starter Wife. The Debra Messing vehicle simply didn’t garner the ratings to survive. You’ll have to content with the 10 episodes in the can.

One of the American Idol contestants was booted from the show. Joanna Pacitti, a 23-year-old Philadelphia native, was shown the door. Reasons weren’t given, but word is she had a ‘relationship’ with a couple of execs at 19 Entertainment, a company founded by judge Simon Fuller.

Irish rockers U2 will release “No Line on the Horizon,” their first new album in more than four years, on March 2, the band’s record label said. “No Line,” which was recorded in Dublin, New York, London and Morocco, will be the group’s 12th studio album, Santa Monica, California-based Interscope Records said yesterday on its Web site. The band’s last album, 2004’s “How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb,” sold 9 million copies, according to the site. – From bloomberg.com
