Todd and Sarah Palin to Divorce?!

The buzz is everywhere, we are hearing from many many insiders that Todd and Sarah Palin are going to divorce. Already, Sarah Palin is going around without her wedding ring (see below). And Todd, is already hitting the bars. Coming soon, we hear, but soon. However, Sarah Palin’s flack denies it:

Yet again, some so-called journalists have decided to make up a story. There is no truth to the recent “story” (and story is the correct term for this type of fiction) that the Palins are divorcing. The Palins remain married, committed to each other and their family, and have not purchased land in Montana (last week it was reported to be Long Island). Less than one week ago, Governor Palin asked the media to “quit making things up.” We appreciate that the more professional journalists decided to question this story before repeating it.

Politico calls Sarah Palin a “Cirus Act”

It hardly will move the Shock-O-Meter for most people on the Right, but since this came during what has been described as MS-NBC’s “conservative” three hours, it’s worth a look. Mike Allen of Politico, Willy Geist, and Joe Scarborough tag-team off of Vanity Fair’s ho-hum hit piece on Sarah Palin to throw a bunch of rehashed ad hominem attacks at Palin. “Joke,” “circus act,” “Dan Quayle” all appear as the three men get their 3:45 Hate in today’s show:

McCain ‘Wasn’t Shocked’ That Palin Quit But Says She’s Not a Quitter

So if a quitter is someone that quits, then exactly what is Sarah Palin?

Sarah Palin Resigning as Alaska Governor

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin made a surprise announcement Friday that she is resigning from office at the end of the month without explaining why she plans to step down, raising speculation that she would focus on a run for the White House in the 2012 race.
The former Republican vice presidential candidate hastily called a news conference Friday morning at her home in suburban Wasilla, giving such short notice that only a few reporters actually made it to the announcement. State troopers blocked late-arriving media outside her home, and her spokesman, Dave Murrow, finally emerged to confirm that Palin will step down July 26. He refused to give details about the governor’s future plans.

“Once I decided not to run for re-election, I also felt that to embrace the conventional Lame Duck status in this particular climate would just be another dose of politics as usual, something I campaigned against and will always oppose,” Palin said in a statement released by her office.

Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell will be inaugurated at the governor’s picnic in Fairbanks at the end of the month, Murrow said.

Palin was first elected in 2006 on a populist platform. But her popularity has waned as she waged in partisan politics following her return from the presidential campaign. Her term would have ended in 2010.

Palin said she planned to make a “positive change outside government,” without elaborating. She also expressed frustration with her current role as governor.

“I cannot stand here as your governor and allow the millions of dollars and all that time go to waste just so I can hold the title of governor,” Palin said.

Later, on Twitter, she promised supporters more details: “We’ll soon attach info on decision to not seek re-election … this is in Alaska’s best interest, my family’s happy … it is good. Stay tuned”

Palin’s decision even took Parnell by surprise. He said he was told on Wednesday evening, and was not aware that any presidential ambitions were behind the move.

Palin emerged from relative obscurity nearly a year ago when she was tapped as then Republican presidential candidate John McCain’s running mate.

She was a controversial figure from the start, with comedian Tina Fey famously imitating her elaborate hairstyle and folksy “You betcha!” on “Saturday Night Live.”

Most recently, she led a public spat with “Late Show” host David Letterman over a joke he made about one of her daughters being “knocked up” by New York Yankees baseball player Alex Rodriguez during the governor’s recent visit to New York. Palin’s 18-year-old daughter, Bristol, is an unwed, teenage mother.

Letterman later apologized for the joke.

Palin’s family and the ridicule they endure being in the public eye was part of her decision. She complained that her 14-month-old son, Trig, who was diagnosed with Down’s syndrome, had been “mocked and ridiculed by some mean-spirited adults recently.” She didn’t elaborate.

Palin campaigned on ethics reform in the 2006 election, defeating incumbent Gov. Frank Murkowski in the Republican primary and a former two-term Democratic governor, Tony Knowles, in the general election.

She enjoyed an extended honeymoon with lawmakers and voters alike. Her popularity was in the 80 percentile range, even though that fell after the bruising, partisan presidential campaign.

Palin’s delivery of two weeks’ notice rattles a Republican Party plagued with setbacks in recent weeks, including extramarital affairs disclosed by two other 2012 presidential prospects, Nevada Sen. John Ensign and South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford.

Ensign, a member of the Christian ministry Promise Keepers, stepped down from the Senate Republican leadership last month after admitting he had an affair for much of last year with a woman on his campaign staff who was married to one of his Senate aides. Ensign later disclosed he had helped the woman’s husband get two jobs during the affair.

A government watchdog group, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, wants the Senate ethics committee and the Federal Election Commission to investigate.

Just days after news of Ensign’s affair broke, Sanford admitted an affair with a woman in Argentina. Some lawmakers are now calling for his resignation. Before the admission, Sanford had been missing from the state for five days visiting his lover. He had slipped his security detail, lied to his staff about where he was and failed to transfer power to the lieutenant governor in case of a state emergency.

Sanford admitted he also saw the mistress during a state-funded trip to Argentina last year. He promised to reimburse the state for part of the trip’s costs. The state Commerce Department said the trip itinerary originally included only Brazil, but the governor requested economic development meetings in Argentina.

The GOP troubles seem to have left two prominent 2012 prospects, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and 2008 presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, unscathed, however.

David Letterman responds to Sarah Palin

Sarah Palin to write memoir

A memoir from Sarah Palin is on the way, and in it the Alaska governor and former vice-presidential candidate will reportedly address some of the controversies surrounding herself and her family. Palin has signed on with HarperCollins to publish a memoir about her personal life and political career, says the Associated Press. The tome will span her Alaskan childhood through last year’s vice-presidential campaign and beyond, and will touch upon her various beliefs, family life and even her teenage daughter Bristol’s pregnancy. Palin tells the AP of her as-yet-untitled memoir: “In fairness to my family, this is going be a good opportunity for them, too, because there have been so many misperceptions out there about who we are and what we believe in, and I’m excited to get to put my journalism degree to work and tell my story as it relates to my family.” – From ETonline.com

Update: the below commenter wasn’t a big fan of the picture of Sarah Palin that we posted. Is the second one better?

CNN asks Levi Johnston If He Had Sex With Bristol In Sarah Palin’s House

Levi Johnston May Go to Court for Custody

Levi Johnston says he would be willing to go to court for custody of his son with Bristol Palin, but he doesn’t want it to come to that.

Johnston said on CNN’s “Larry King Live” on Wednesday that he should have rights to his son Tripp. He also said he hasn’t seen the baby in a couple of weeks.

Bristol Palin, the eldest daughter of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, gave birth Dec. 27 and the teenage parents broke up soon after that. Johnston has claimed in several national TV interviews that Bristol has limited his access to the baby.

Johnston says if it continues, he may have to go to court to secure his legal rights with his son.

Sarah Palin blasts Levi Johnston

In response to a question from a television reporter, Palin also talked about some of the ongoing drama surrounding her family. Levi Johnston said during an interview on CBS’s “Early Show” that he moved into the governor’s house a few weeks before Bristol Palin gave birth to their child.

“I know the truth about my family. I know details about whether Levi Johnston was allowed to live with my teenage daughter or not. By the way, it would be over my dead body that a kid would live with my teenage daughter,” Palin said.

Todd Palin says GOP spending on his wife was ‘out of control’

sarahandtoddpalin

The husband of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin says the Republican Party’s lavish spending on her wardrobe during the presidential campaign was “out of our control.” In the May issue of Men’s Journal, Todd Palin was asked about the more than $150,000 that the Republican National Committee spent on clothes, accessories and beauty services for the GOP vice presidential nominee. He defended his wife, saying she was focused on preparation for her debate with Joe Biden. “She never went to Saks, or any of that stuff,” he said. “You come into a campaign late, you put all your trust into the team, you got people who are working on VP ops for a long time, and we’re just focused on debate prep. I couldn’t give a rat’s (expletive) about clothes. Please. I mean these are my Sunday go-to-meeting jeans!” – From Fox News

Palin gets replaced at GOP dinner

Sarah Palin will no longer headline a major Republican dinner in June, a Republican official told CNN Tuesday. Former House speaker Newt Gingrich will replace Palin as the keynote speaker at a joint fundraising dinner held by the campaign committees of Senate and House Republicans. The scheduling change follows a communications breakdown between Palin’s political staff and her aides in Alaska that left the dinner’s organizers unsure the Alaska governor would actually attend the Washington event. – From CNN

Bristol Palin is Still Single, Levi Has a Beer

Levi Johnston and Bristol Palin, the teenage daughter of Gov. Sarah Palin, have broken off their engagement, he said Wednesday, about two and a half months after the couple had a baby.

GOP split on 2012 candidates

As the first unofficial ballots are cast in the 2012 presidential race, a new national poll of Republicans indicates no clear front-runner for the next GOP White House nominee. It does, however, suggest a clear gender gap. Twenty-nine percent of Republicans questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey released Friday say they are most likely to support Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin for the next GOP presidential nomination. Right behind the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee, and well within the poll’s margin of error, is former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee. Twenty-six percent of those questioned say they are most likely backing Huckabee, the surprise winner of the 2008 Iowa GOP caucuses. Twenty-one percent of Republicans polled say they most likely would support former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, another GOP hopeful from the last campaign who may run again. Nine percent say they would probably back Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, who is considered a rising star in the GOP. – From CNN

Palin ordered to pay back taxes

sarah-palin

This is, for the most part, a non-issue. Some people will want to make hay on a prominent figure taking some questionable expenses, but it’s not so cut and dry that there’s obvious malice. The Dems are best to let Sarah fade away and not seem like they are being petty. Pursue the matter to it’s rightful conclusion, but leave it after that.

Gov. Sarah Palin must pay income taxes on thousands of dollars in expense money she received while living at her Wasilla home, under a new determination by state officials. The governor’s office wouldn’t say this week how much she owes in back taxes for meal money, or whether she intends to continue to receive the per diem allowance. As of December, she was still charging the state for meals and incidentals. – From Miami Herald

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) owes income taxes on thousands of dollars she received as expense money while living in her own home, the Anchorage Daily News reported today. Palin received $16,951 in per diem payments, which are intended to cover meals and incidental expenses while traveling on state business, The Washington Post reported in September. Even though she was staying in her home in Wasilla, Alaska, she claimed the expense money because she was away from her official “duty station” in Juneau, the state capital. “The governor is entitled to a per diem, and she claims it,” gubernatorial spokeswoman Sharon Leighow said at the time. – From Washington Post

Alaska officials have told Gov. Sarah Palin she must pay back taxes on the thousands of dollars she received in state per diem funds while living at her home in Wasilla. The Washington Post first reported last September that Palin had billed the state for nearly $17,000 worth of meals and other living expenses while staying in her own home during the first 19 months of her administration, even though the official governor’s residence is in Juneau. – From CNN

Sarah Palin may be shopping a book

Ya wanna read a book? You betcha do!

It looks like Sarah Palin may be ready to tell her remarkable story in print. The former GOP vice presidential candidate has apparently enlisted the help of superstar Washington attorney Robert Barnett, who has brokered book deals for such political A-listers as President Barack Obama, former President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. Additionally, he has handled TV deals for a lot of top anchors and reporters such as Brian Williams, Lesley Stahl, Neil Cavuto, Christiane Amanpour and Dr. Sanjay Gupta. – From the Hollywood Reporter

If you thought being governor of Alaska and a new grandmother would be enough to fill the cold, dark nights in the Arctic state, you underestimate Sarah Palin, the feisty, failed vice presidential candidate. Palin has reportedly enlisted the services of Robert Barnett, the Washington lawyer who represented President Obama, would-be President Hillary Rodham Clinton and former President Bill Clinton in their multimillion-dollar book deals. Barnett declined to comment. But a variety of published sources, including the Hollywood Reporter, said that Barnett was on board in helping to sell a Palin book. – From LA Times

Reuters reports that Vice Presidential failure Sarah Palin is in the works for her book deal.
