Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and actor Sam Shepard was arrested early Saturday in Normal for allegedly driving under the influence and speeding after visiting a downtown Bloomington tavern, police said. Shepard, 65, of Midway, Ky., was northbound in the 700 block of North Main Street around 2 a.m. when officers clocked him on radar going 46 mph in a 30 mph zone and pulled him over, said Normal police Lt. A Pulitzer-Prize winning playwright and actor was arrested early Saturday morning in the Twin Cities on preliminary charges of drunk driving and speeding. Police in Normal stopped Sam Shepard around two this morning after he was clocked going 16 miles per hour over speed limit. Our News Partner the Pantagraph reports the 65-year-old Shepard stopped at Fat Jack’s, a bar in downtown Bloomington he’s frequented before. Police say a breath test indicated Shepard’s blood-alcohol level was double the legal limit. – From week.com
