Wait a second, Dwayne Johnson is making a Disney movie? No way! Continuing his relationship with the media giant, Dwayne has taken the safest career move one can take, and that’s sticking with Disney for as long as they’ll hire him. I’m sure he’s treated good, gets big fat paychecks, gets to ride Space Mountain without having to wait in line and always has new family projects to work on since he abandoned the action genre. Or did he? According to Production Weekly he’s set to star in McG’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. An interesting casting choice, isn’t it? Question is if writer Justin Marks (Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li) can write a halfway decent story. – From Latino Review

Turns out Schwarzenegger has been secretly working with helmer McG and the effects team to reprise his signature role … without lifting a finger. A body-cast mold of Schwarzenegger, created when he first appeared as the muscle-ripped cyborg, provided the basis for a digital-effects version of his famous character. The figure appears in “Terminator Salvation” as a living, breathing actor. Schwarzenegger viewed the resulting footage and gave his go-ahead just in time for McG to include the footage before the helmer completes his cut of the movie. Warners first screens the pic in early May and opens it May 21. – from Variety
Here’s what Arnie said previously, via AICN:
Right now, they’re looking at the technology and see if it is possible to create a technology where they can use my image in the film without me actually filming, because I made it clear I don’t have the time… and if they shoot outside the state, I would not participate… But I would be willing to be in the movie if they get the technology together. We have a great relationship with the people making the movie.. McG is the director, he’s a terrific talented guy. I’m going to be at the premiere, I told him I want to be as supportive as possible.
I think that within the next week or so, we will see if they are technologically able to do that. It’s terrific because they basically take technology out of Terminator 1 and use that walk of mine, and somehow bring it in… it’s just a brief scene, where we see one of the leads run into a room and he sees the future terminators because it’s kind of a prequel… then he gets thrown around, then he goes in another room and there’s other terminators, so there’s supposed to be all these new terminators. I think it’s cool to continue on with the franchise, and in case I want to jump over again and get into the acting when we’re through here.
So he hasn’t had to do a single thing! The body cast has just been sitting around for 25 years and was just pulled out of storage someplace. I hope he didn’t charge them too much for the privilege of using his likeness. I suppose Roland Kickinger provided motion capture, or an on-set torso for the acting Arnie to be pasted over…? – from Slashfilm
McG is in talks to bring the Broadway rock musical “Spring Awakening” to the big screen, developing it with original book and lyrics writer Steven Sater. McG is attached to direct and would act as a producer. Set in 19th-century Germany, the coming-of-age story follows a group of teens discovering their sexuality and dealing with high-wire topics like masturbation, abortion, rape and suicide. – from THR

When production first began on Terminator Salvation, rumors began to circulate that Warner Bros wanted the film to be PG-13. At Comic-Con last year, McG assured fans in attendance that he is under no pressure to deliver a PG-13 rating. Referring to the studio executives for this film, McG explained “I’ve been given their blessing to make the picture…and if it’s a rated R picture, then that’s that.” He elaborated that he’s not against the idea of a PG-13 rating, but that the ultimate rating will depend completely upon what the final vision for the film is. When I was on the film set, McG showed us a reel of early footage from the film. One of the clips included Moon Bloodgood topless in the rain, which to me, confirmed that McG wasn’t lying. – From SlashFilm
“He’s Just Not That Into You” took in $27.5 million this week to top the box office. Last week’s winner, “Taken”, held on strong, taking in $20.3 million. The critically loved animated adventure “Coraline” was No. 3 with $16.3 million and the sci-fi thriller “Push” at No. 6 with $10.2 million. Steve Martin’s Inspector Clouseau sequel “The Pink Panther 2″ is No. 5 with a debut of $12 million.
Terminator Salvation director McG doesn’t blame Christian Bale for his blow up last summer – saying the set is a passionate place and things happen. Of course, McG should take on some of the responsibility – we know it’s only 4 minutes of audio – but a director shouldn’t let his film set descend into such chaos.
McG also addressed rumors of a possible Arnold Schwarzenegger cameo in the new Terminator film. The director revealed to the audience that they were working on a revolutionary technique for “doing something with that” and that he wasn’t sure if it would even work.

Joss Whedon’s new TV show, the Dollhouse, debuts Friday, and reviews coming out are decidedly mixed. Most people are saying that the show will need some time to gain an audience. Also, several are noting that the show’s premise may cause some issues since the main character, Eliza Dushku, will essentially become a new character each show. Critics are wondering if viewers are going to want to ’start new’ each week. Given Whedon’s track record (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Serenity), we’ll certainly give it time – but will your normal viewer and the network.
Disney has set McG to direct “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo,” a family film that is being fast tracked by the studio. McG, who most recently helmed “Terminator: Salvation,” had multiple studios vying for his next slot. Sources said he will be paid $8 million against 7% of gross. – from Variety
