”The Incident” confirmed for me one of the few correct theories I’ve come up with this year: That season 5 was a mirror to season 2, they’ve been setting up a sixth season that will resemble season 1, thus completing the moebius strip narrative of Lost. ”The Incident” certainly resembled season 2’s finale, the title of which, ”Live Together, Die Alone,” was name-checked by Juliet last night. There was a story line involving castaway treachery (Michael = Alterna-Locke). Both episodes shared the Four Toed Statue as a plot point, although ”The Incident” gave us a better look at what it once looked like back in the day. (Was that a crocodile head?) Both episodes culminated with the destruction of the Hatch, perpetrated in each case by lovelorn characters hoping their sacrifice would somehow, someway save the lives of their friends. And finally, both episodes were about activating ”quibbles”. As in: A plot device, common to fantasy/science fiction, that allows a character to cheat the literal obligations of a promise, contract, or prophecy. Also see: loophole. Except, it turns out that Locke may not be Locke. Because look, there’s his body in a box carted around by a subset of the Others and when as “Locke” finally confronts Jacob, it is with in dialogue most reminiscent of Mr. Black. But Ben, a bitter Cain to “Locke’s” Abel — why did Jacob never let him into his holy presence until now? — dutifully wields his knife. Meanwhile, over at the Swan, Jack has dumped the bomb into the power pit, except it doesn’t do much but turn the hole into a giant magnet that sucks up every bit of metal, including a chain that somehow gets wrapped around Juliet’s waist. Sawyer catches hold of her but to save the man she loves (and because we hear Mitchell’s already signed onto another show) Juliet lets go and falls, like Alice to the bottom of the rabbit hole, where, choosing grief and frustration over gratitude that she is miraculously still alive, she beats on the hydrogen bomb until it finally explodes. ME: No, I don’t know. I wouldn’t even venture to try and second-guess Damon Lindelof. He’s so brilliant. I’m really curious to where it will go. People say, “What new angles and developments for your character do you long for?” and I say I don’t really long for any. I think Ben has a kind of constancy, that Ben’s mission remains the same. His character is rather set. I’ll be curious to see what sorts of challenges or situations they provide for me. Having said that, they may completely change the character, for all I know. [Laughs.] I don’t think so, though. I’ll be glad to be in it, because I’ll be curious to see how far into the last season I’ll survive. Ausiello: Funny, we posed that exact question to Jorge Garcia at the Hollywood premiere of “Star Trek” earlier this week. “People will find out why (Hurley) got on the plane and how he came to get that guitar case in his hands,” he said. “I’ve been wondering about that, too. I remember at one point asking a question about it and getting a, ‘We don’t know yet.’ I had to ask once, ‘How heavy is it? Is it just a guitar? Is it something else? How heavy is it supposed to be?’ Sometimes I get an empty case to lug around in a scene and sometimes it has a guitar in it, but we don’t actually know what’s in it because that has not been (revealed) yet. It could be a case full of food or money or guns or papers or anything. So you see me get the case by the finale, but I don’t know that we will find out what’s in it. It was hard for me to play because at first I did not understand why Hurley would have ever changed his mind about going back to the island, and I’m sure fans are thinking the same thing. As a Lost fan yourself, how shocking did you find this season’s finale? Is it more shocking or less that the season-three finale where we learned Jack and Kate got off the Island?
Ours is a show that specializes in big shock endings, but I think season five…None of the other shock endings left me wondering how the show goes on. We have two kinds of huge shocks at the end of this one. Each one alone would be enough to keep an audience eating its own soul for the whole hiatus, but with two, I don’t know what you can do with that. – from E!

A woman is suing ABC and ‘Lost’ actor Henry Ian Cusick, claiming she was sexually harassed and then fired from the hit show. The woman filed the lawsuit on Friday in Los Angeles, alleging Cusick, who plays Desmond Hume on the show, fondled her buttocks and breasts and kissed her on the lips in October 2007. The lawsuit claims she reported the incident to her supervisor, but was simply told to avoid the actor. She states she was fired 12 days later in retaliation for reporting the alleged abuse. – from here

Chelsea Stone has filed a lawsuit against Henry Ian Cusick, the actor who portrays Desmond in “Lost”. Stone filed her lawsuit against Cusick on Friday, April 24. Stone alleged Cusick sexually harassed her and molested her. Stone alleged Cusick touched her back and made moaning sounds. Stone said that during work on the production of “Lost”, Cusick put his hand on her bum and massaged her back while making suggestive moaning sounds. – from here

Henry Ian Cusick, who plays Desmond on the show “Lost,” is being sued for sexual harassment. Television shows including NBC’s “Saturday Night Live,” ABC’s “Lost” and HBO’s “Entourage,” as well as the YouTube Web site, were among 36 winners of Peabody Awards announced Wednesday by the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communications. The awards, for excellence in electronic media, are given in both entertainment and news and information categories. “Lost” was recognized for being an “innovative, mind-bending adventure series, “Entourage” for being a “wicked take on Hollywood,” and “SNL” was cited specifically for its satirical commentary on last year’s political campaigns. The Simpsons have been renewed two more years. Already in its 20th year, it will go on forever. I think a great gag in the new Star Trek movie or some other scifi show would be for them to be watching new Simpsons episodes. This ensures the show will surpass “Gunsmoke” as the longest-running prime-time US television series.

Jerry Seinfeld is coming back to TV with a reality show – The Marriage Ref. The will “feature opinionated celebrities, comedians and sports stars who will candidly comment, judge and offer different strategies for real-life couples in the midst of a classic marital dispute.” Hmmm…I guess we’ll wait and see on this one. It is Seinfeld, so hopefully is will subvert and twist the reality convention to the extreme.

William Shatner is toying with the idea of running for prime minister of Canada. I think Shatner is going off the deep end, but hey, Captain Kirk running a nation – I’ll vote for that (okay I can’t, but you get the idea).

Grey’s Anatomy is talking about giving Meredith a half brother. Yes, another sibling. Talk about not having any ideas left. I just don’t know where this friggin’ show is going.

LOST SPOILER: Daniel Dae Kim is indeed back on the the island for good. Yea! Now someone kill Kate – she’s whining again.

The Grammys gained audience this year, improving by 2.5 million viewers. Hope they weren’t waiting for Chris Brown and Rihanna.

Hollywood marriage update: Actress Kristy Swanson has married her Skating with faded and not-so-famous Celebrities partner Lloyd Eisler. And Claire Danes has gotten engaged to British actor Hugh Dancy.

In one of the strangest pairings of late, Dancing with the Stars will have Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak as a contestant. Someone was drunk when they thought up this. And Woz must have been drunk to accept.

Star Trek fans – can you smell it? If you do, it’s just the new Star Trek cologne. I imagine this will be a classic gag gift this year for geeks around the world (okay, not all will be gag gifts).

- Kill Juliet – she does nothing. Her back stories are boring.

But enough about that. No, really — that’s enough. I can’t say more, given the confidentiality request that prefaced the first two Season 5 episodes made available to the press. It’s now 10:00pm est, I’ve completed my umpteenth viewing of the first and second episodes of LOST’s fifth season and in a strange sense I wish I hadn’t seen them. Why? Because, first of all my hiatus has been extended by a week. Getting an early glimpse is great, but now I have to live with knowing that my steady stream of LOST goodness won’t settle into a regular rhythm until January 28th. Worse than that, though, is the fact that these episodes were so damn good, the wait is going to be infinitely more agonizing than it should be.
