Iron Man 2 director Jon Favreau interview

iron_man_movie_image_robert_downey_jr12

As followers of Jon Favreau’s on-set tweets will know, today is the half-way point in the Iron Man 2 shoot as the production starts to take shape. Favreau recently gave Empire a few pointers on Tony Stark’s arc as he faces down new villains Whiplash (Mickey Rourke) and Justin Hammer (Sam Rockwell). “Tony’s expected to be a role model and I don’t think he’s ready to be one. He’s under a great deal of pressure and when you’re under pressure, I think you find outlets for that. That’s one of the tensions of the film: it’s one thing to say you’re Iron Man, and another thing to actually become Iron Man.” – From Empire

Terrence Howard bitter over Iron Man 2

“Marvel made a choice, and it was a very, very bad choice. They didn’t keep their word. They didn’t honor my contract. They produced a great bounty with the first one but they put it all in the storehouse and you were not allowed in. They did the same thing with Gwyneth Paltrow, from what I’ve been told. They did it with almost everyone except Robert Downey [Jr.]. One of the things that actors need to learn to do is always stick together, one for all and all for one. I’ve seen the script, I know what’s going to happen, but I’m not revealing anything. I believe in karma. When someone does something wrong, you don’t have to get them back. Everything right will return the favor for you. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing the movie. I want to see Don Cheadle become me. No, I want him to do better than me. That’s what I really want to see. Don Cheadle was the reason I got Crash, so I have a lot of love for him.” – Terrence Howard via Parade

Meanwhile….

Kate Mara and Clark Gregg have joined Marvel’s “Iron Man 2,” being directed by Jon Favreau and currently shooting in Manhattan Beach, Calif. Mara’s role is being kept under wraps. Gregg is returning as Agent Phil Coulson of S.H.I.E.L.D. – from THR

According to Favreau, the “Iron Man 2” director has reprised his role as Happy Hogan, Tony Stark’s bodyguard sidekick. While the character was rather subdued in the first film, it sounds like Favreau’s role will be significantly more colorful in the sequel — the actor-turned-director has already been involved in stunt work. “Woke up sore from doing stunt work last night,” Favreau posted on April 18th. “I shoulda known it was coming when the stuntwoman said goodbye by saying ‘Take some Advil.’” – from MTV

Jon Favreau is “gonna shake the Sherlock outta” Robert Downey Jr.

Director Jon Favreau wouldn’t confirm reports that Mickey Rourke will join the cast of the much-anticipated Iron Man 2, but he assured EW that “everyone will be happy with who’ve we got.” Speaking from the red carpet of the March 17 premiere of I Love You, Man in L.A., Favreau acknowledged being a “very big fan” of Rourke — and not just because of his work in The Wrestler. “Sin City was when he got on the geek map,” Favreau said. “The Comic-Con crowd knew about his rebirth back from Robert Rodriguez’ film. With shooting set to begin within a month, Favreau said he planned to gather the Iron Man 2 cast this week for a little bonding and a whole lot of rehearsing. “I’m getting the old-timers together again and introducing them to new cast members,” he added. “We’re gonna shake the Sherlock outta junior! I’m a little nervous because the first one set a high bar but we have put our all into this so far.” – from EW

‘Iron Man 2’ Casting Update: Mickey Rourke To Play Crimson Dynamo?

Robert Downey Jr, Mickey Rourke — there’s some mileage between those two.

In what would mark his first studio film since resurrecting his career with “The Wrestler,” Mickey Rourke is in talks to play the main heavy in “Iron Man 2,” the Marvel Entertainment sequel that director Jon Favreau begins shooting this spring. Sam Rockwell also has begun talks to play a villain in the pic, to be distribbed by Paramount Pictures in summer 2010. Which role Rockwell will play has yet to be disclosed by Marvel, but Rourke is in discussions to play the Crimson Dynamo, a heavily tattooed Russian arms dealer. He’s considered to be an evil version of Iron Man because he battles the superhero in a nuclear-powered suit of armor. – From Variety

While we’ve been spending most of the week so far focusing on the award nominations being heaped upon “The Dark Knight” and updating you on the “Watchmen” legal battles, it seems as though Marvel films has been chugging right along with “Iron Man 2” casting — and it looks like they’ve added yet another big name to the upcoming, highly-anticipated sequel. – From MTV

Obama’s top speechwriter ‘grope’ Hillary cutout

For a while there this afternoon, President-elect Barack Obama’s immensely talented chief speechwriter, 27-year-old Jon Favreau, might have been pondering how to address that question.

That’s when some interesting photos of a recent party he attended — including one where he’s dancing with a life-sized cardboard cut-out of secretary of state-designate Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, and another where he’s placed his hand on the cardboard former first lady’s chest while a friend is offering her lips a beer — popped up on Facebook for about two hours. The photos were quickly taken down — along with every other photo Favreau had of himself on the popular social networking site, save for one profile headshot.

Asked about the photos, Favreau, who was recently appointed director of speechwriting for the White House, declined comment. A transition official said that Favreau had “reached out to Senator Clinton to offer an apology.”
