G-Force topples Harry Potter at Box Office

gforce-2

Despite terrible reviews, both G-Force and The Ugly Truth debuted this weekend with strong takes. G-Force, about an elite team of guinea pigs, topped Harry Potter with a $32 million take. The Ugly Truth did well with $27 million. Potter conjured up $30 million – a steep drop, which doesn’t bode well for word-of-mouth on the film. The only other new release was the horror flick, Orphan, which took in almost $13 million, a bit better than expected.

In other news, Transformers, the Hangover and the Proposal all near milestones. Transformers will likely hit the $400 million mark by the end of the summer, while The Hangover is still going strong, an will break the $250 million mark next week – a true smash hit considering the lack of budget, marketing and stars. The Proposal will top $150 million in two weeks, making it another surprise hit. Ice Age 3 will top $175 million next week, but will struggle to hit the $200 million – but it will come close. The franchise is going strong.

Johnny Depp’s Public Enemies will be out of the top 10 next week, and it won’t make the coveted $100 million mark. Watch for good video sales on this one.

In what really can only be classified as a bomb, Bruno was 10th this week, drawing less than $3 million in tickets. The film will max out at $60 million.

Here’s the list of this week’s top 10 films.

G-Force – $32.2M – $32.2M
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince – $30M – $222M
The Ugly Truth – $27M – $27M
Orphan – $12.8M – $12.8M
Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs – $8.2M – $171M
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen – $8M – $379M
The Hangover – $6.46M – $247M
The Proposal – $6.42M – $140M
Public Enemies – $4.17M – $88.1M
Brüno – $2.72M – $56.5M

New in theaters this week: G-Force, Ugly Truth, Orphan

g-force-1

This week’s new releases will have to battle the wizard champion for the box office crown. New flicks include the kid’s film G-Force, the romatic comedy The Ugly Truth, and the fright film, Orphan. Look for G-Force and The Ugly Truth to get around $20 million, while the Orphan will do $10 million or so. The champion, however, will be the boy who lived – Harry Potter – garnering $30-35 million. Ice Age: Dawn of the Dionsaurs should get around $10 million, while Tranformers 2 should do $7 million or so. Tranformers should do $400 million before all is said and done – not a bad haul.

New this week:

G-Force
The new Disney film features CGI commando rodents, and is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. Expect nothing original, but the trailers have played well, so it will do fine for a week or two with the kids.

The Ugly Truth
The new film staring Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler should attract the romance fans, with the classic story of the girl who just can’t find the right guy. Reviews haven’t been anything to write home about. Nothing original, but it should satisfy fans of the genre.

Orphan
It’s the summer horror film of the month – this one with the evil kid. Like all the new films this month, nothing terribly original here. Reviews have been okay, and fans of the genre should be satisfied (hey, we’re saying that about all the new films).

Harry Potter actor gets community service for growing pot

crabb

Crabbe was always no good.

A judge has sentenced a cast member of the “Harry Potter” films to 120 hours of community service for growing marijuana. Twenty-year-old Jamie Waylett, who plays school bully Vincent Crabbe in the magical movie franchise, pleaded guilty to producing the drug at a court hearing last week. Prosecutors said police found 10 marijuana plants growing in a bedroom at Waylett’s mother’s house in London. Producing cannabis carries a maximum 14-year sentence. Judge Timothy Workman said Tuesday that he accepted that the cultivation was on a small scale and for Waylett’s own use. He said the actor had been, “until now, a man of good character.” – From yahoo

Retards playing Quidditch

They’re playing in rain-sodden fields near the University of Wisconsin-Madison Natatorium, not in the airspace next to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. And instead of zipping loop-de-loops on bewitched broomsticks, they trot doggedly with kitchen brooms between their legs. But the nine UW-Madison students — all women — are shouting to each other about quaffles, bludgers and golden snitches, and, despite a steady rain, are clearly delighting in a vigorous game of Quidditch. Yes, Quidditch. – from Madison

Harry Potter star Emma Watson Q&A

Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows poster! Sorry, but no.

The new ‘teaser’ poster of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is a fake, according to Warner Brothers.

Harry Potter’s Emma Watson: I Will Go Naked

What would Harry Potter say?! Actress Emma Watson says she won’t mind baring all for a movie. The 18-year-old said she would be picky about her next film, but would love to work with an arty Italian director like Bernardo Bertolucci, thesun.co.uk reports. Asked if she would strip for a role, she replied: “Yes – for him (Bernardo Bertolucci). It depends. I’m not getting my kit off any time soon, but it is part of my job.”

Emma features in The Tale of Despereaux, which was premiered Sunday and she turned eyeballs at the red carpet event.

She also talked about university plans saying: “I have enough to hold me together without fame.”

Emma Watson says she is at that strange age when she’s “not a woman yet, but I’m not a girl anymore.” At 18 years old, the “Harry Potter” starlet – whom the Times of London calls “tiny and pretty and delightfully brought up” – is clearly poised for adulthood, and even says she would go naked in a film for the right role. – from Fox News
