Tom Brady back from injury with Patriots

Tom Brady practiced with the New England Patriots for the first time Tuesday since suffering a season-ending knee injury in last year’s opening game. Brady and nearly the entire team participated in the first of four days of this week’s organized team activities, Patriots spokesman Stacey James said. The first three days of OTAs were held last week for young players and others signed as free agents in the offseason who needed more time to get used to the playbook. About 50 players, roughly half the team, took part in those. The sessions are voluntary. – From ESPN

Old Guys Reenact High School Football Game To Settle 1993 Tie

It’s all been done before in the film Best of Times, but never in real life have members of rival high school football teams met more than a decade later to decide ultimate bragging rights. The 1993 winner of the “Fork of the Delaware” trophy will finally be decided this weekend (fortunately I still have my ticket) when the original players from Phillipsburg High School and Easton Area High School meet to hash out their 16-year-old, 7-7 tie. In Pennsylvania they’re calling it the Sister-Kissing Game, and copious amounts of heat balm, knee braces and, let’s face it, crutches, are being shipped in for Sunday’s showdown at Lafayette College’s Fisher Stadium in Easton, Pa. – From Deadspin

Footballer Tackles Opponent With Chainsaw

Anthony Lloyd, 20, was ordered off the park pitch for foul language but returned with the running power tool and tried to chop the hands off rival Paul Westwood while yelling: “I’m a crank.” Prosecutor Laura Plant told the court: “They heard an engine start and saw the defendant coming out of the bushes revving a chainsaw. “The victim’s friend ran off, leaving him cornered by the defendant.” Lloyd began thrusting the chainsaw at Mr Westwood, cutting his chest. Ms Plant added: “He tried to chop his hands off while Mr Westwood was defending himself. He then walked off.” Guildford Crown Court heard that Lloyd, who had been drinking, had seven previous convictions and was on a conditional discharge for possessing a knife when he went on the rampage on Horley, Surrey. Police caught up with Lloyd shortly before 3am on July 23, and the weapon was later found in the same road. – From telegraph.co.uk

Why Do The Lions and Cowboys Always Play On Thanksgiving?

I can only guess it’s to bore us (Lions) or annoy us (Cowboys).

Every year since 1934, the Detroit Lions have taken the field for a Thanksgiving game, no matter how bad their record has been. When this year’s hapless 0-11 squad squares off against the powerhouse Tennessee Titans, you might find yourself wondering how the lowly Lions managed to get the plum gig of playing a nationally televised game every Turkey Day. – From MentalFloss.com
