Terry Gilliam revisits ‘Don Quixote’

Filmmaker Terry Gilliam is revisiting the film he abandoned 10 years ago. He is currently re-writing the script of the Miguel Cervantes’ novel “Don Quixote” with screenwriter Tony Grisoni. – from AllHeadlines

Much legal wrangling with the insurers ensued, before rights to the script were eventually ceded back to Gilliam and writing partner Tony Grisoni (Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas). “Tony and I have started rewriting Don Quixote just this last week. [We] finally got the script back. I re-read the greatest script ever written and realize we gotta get rewriting! I really wanna knock that one out in the next month or so.” – from Empire

If you need a refresher, here it is in a nutshell: In the year 2000, Gilliam was making a film; Johnny Depp and Jean Rochefort were the leads; everything went wrong; a few more things went wrong; the last few things went wrong and the film had to be cancelled after just days. It has all been documented a hundred times over, not least in the wonderful documentary Lost in La Mancha, but now, finally, Gilliam has retrieved the script he wrote with Tony Grisoni and, for the last week, the two of them have been doing a new draft.
