Ben Stiller’s ‘Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian’ has claimed a box office victory over Christian Bale’s ‘Terminator Salvation,’ pulling $70 million in ticket sales over the Memorial Day holiday.


Ben Stiller to ‘Spread Goodness’

Ben Stiller has been set by Participant Media to direct “Help Me Spread Goodness,” a drama with comic overtones. Script, about a Chicago banker who gets swindled in a Nigerian Internet scam, was written by Mark Friedman and developed by Participant Media exec veep Jonathan King and prexy Ricky Strauss before they took it to Stiller. While the project is meant to be entertaining, it sheds light on current issues in Nigeria and other African countries, fitting the Participant Media mandate to make films that compel social change. – from Variety

Wonderful job at the Oscars, Ben Stiller! In mocking Joaquin Phoenix’s odd David Letterman appearance, you’ve earned back a gold star. Between that and Tropic Thunder, you’re back in our good graces. You could say this is more appropriate for the MTV Movie Awards than the Oscars, but screw that, it was funny. And Natalie Portman was a terrific partner. Ben Stiller on road to ‘Greenburg’ instead of Ruffalo

Ben Stiller is set to replace Mark Ruffalo in “Greenburg,” a comedy-drama Noah Baumbach is writing and directing. Scott Rudin is producing the project, whose logline is being kept under wraps but which is expected to center on the intimacies of relationships in the manner of Baumbach’s other films. Amy Adams was set to star opposite Ruffalo, but she, too, is said to have fallen off; talks are being held with a number of other actresses. – from THR
