Al Pacino to play ‘Dr. Death’ Jack Kevorkian in HBO pic

pacino

Al Pacino has been set to star in an HBO telepic about right-to-die champion Dr. Jack Kevorkian, to be helmed by Barry Levinson. Pic will revolve around Kevorkian’s construction of his infamous “Mercy Machine,” his first assisted suicide in the early 1990s and the resulting media frenzy. Kevorkian was convicted of second-degree murder in 1999 as a result of his involvement in an assisted suicide that was videotaped and later shown on TV. He was released from prison in 2007. Script was penned by Adam Mazer. Levinson, Steve Lee Jones, Lydia Dean Pilcher and Glenn Rigberg will exec produce. It’s still unclear if Kevorkian, who last year mounted an unsuccessful bid for Congress in Michigan, will be involved in the production. – From Variety

Al Pacino to ‘Blink’?

Like everyone else who’s ever read the New Yorker or caught a glimpse of the book that guy on the plane next to them is reading, we’ve been mystified as to how Malcolm Gladwell’s nonfiction bestseller “Blink” would be turned into a feature pretty much since Leo DiCaprio optioned the thing.

When Stephen Gaghan came on to write and direct, the intrigued deepened. “Traffic” with decision-making problems? “Syrianna” with academic studies?

Now the mystery is clearing up, and what kind of movie it will be is clearing up with it.

Risky Biz has learned that Al Pacino is in talks to star as one of the leads, with a number of younger actors – you’d be surprised at the tween appeal of some on the list — circling the other lead part.

Al Pacino To Play Napoleon

Al Pacino is set to fulfil a long-standing ambition by playing Napoleon Bonaparte in an adaptation of the children’s book, Betsy & The Emperor.

OK, so it’s hardly Kubrick’s legendary unmade movie, Napoleon, but it certainly sounds intriguing.

The book, by Staton Rabin, tells the true story of English schoolgirl Betsy Balcombe, who forms an unlikely friendship with Bonaparte on her home island of St. Helena (where Bonaparte was famously exiled in 1815), and should provide a neat look at the great and terrible man towards the end of his life.

Hollywood Buzz: Penn and Depp as 3 Stooges, Pacino as Lear, Astro Boy photos

Wacky Rumor of the Day: Sean Penn and Johnny Depp as the Three Stooges (well, we’ll assume two of three). The Farrelly Brothers are behind the project.

The cast for Steven Spielberg’s “The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn” is set, with Jamie Bell, from “Billy Elliot” taking the title role. Daniel Craig will co-star as the Red Rackham.

Al Pacino is teaming with director Michael Radford to film one of the bard’s most famous plays – King Lear. The two did the Merchant of Venice in 2004, with Pacino as Shylock.

A couple of new Astro Boy shots popped up online today. Enjoy.

The Donnie Darko sequel is going straight to video. Wait, there was a sequel to Donnie Darko? When the frak did that happen? Apparently someone lured back Donnie’s sister for ‘S. Darko’. Lame. Here’s the trailer.
