Baseball Buzz: Zaun signs, Youkilis extends and Young agrees to play 3B

The Orioles have signed veteran catcher Greg Zaun. He’ll handle the catching until uber prospect Matt Weiters is ready.

The Red Sox inked their star 1B/3B Kevin Youkilis to a four year, $41 million deal, buying out 2 years of free agency. Solid move through Youkilis’ prime years.

Texas SS Michael Young has rescinded his trade request and will move to 3B. Young is a sub-par SS, but should be adequate at 3B. His bat is nothing special. With the $80 million owed him over the next five years, no one would have wanted to take him on even if he’d wanted the trade.
