Baseball Buzz: Indians get DeRosa, Angels Fuentes, Cubs Miles eye Bradley
With the big boys off the Free Agent table, things are starting to shake up on the hot stove.
Valuable super sub Mark DeRosa has been traded by the Cubs to the Cleveland Indians for minor league pitchers Jeff Stevens, Chris Archer and John Gaub. DeRosa will likely slide into Cleveland’s opening at third base. Solid pick up for the Indians.
The Angels Wednesday agreed to terms on a two-year contract with free agent left-handed pitcher Brian Fuentes. The contract includes a club option for the 2011 season. Fuentes was the top closer on the market.
The Cubs’ signed middle infielder Aaron Miles. Along with the trade of Mark DeRosa to Cleveland for three minor league pitchers, and the trade of Jason Marquis yesterday, the Cubs have freed up $8.3 million in 2009 payroll, allowing the Cubbies to sign slugging (but injury prone) OF Milton Bradley.
In other minor deals, the Dodgers signeded pitcher Claudio Vargas and the Rockies have added veteran OF Luis Gonzalez.
