Idiot Rod Blagojevich Meets With Criminal Attorney, Spokesman Says Governor Not Resigning
Gov. Rod Blagojevich spent much of today holed up with a high-profile lawyer as his spokesman said there was “zero chance” that the governor is about to resign. Criminal attorney Ed Genson does not usually take on clients who intend to plead guilty. He tells ABC News he has yet to decide whether he will represent the governor. Blagojevich’s spokesman Lucio Guerrero scoffed at rumors that the governor was prepared to resign on Monday. But he left open the possibility that he might resign later. “Absolutely not true,” Guerrero told ABC News. “There is zero chance of that… I know for sure not Monday.” The spokesman added, “I’m sure when his attorney says you need to resign, he will, but he hasn’t said that and it’s definitely not Monday.” Aside from resignation, there is really no quick or simple way to oust a sitting governor. – from ABCnews
“The state government is paralyzed by a governor who is incapable of governing,” said Illinois attorney general Lisa Madigan. Madigan is petitioning the State Supreme Court to temporarily remove Blagojevich from office, kicking him out while the legislature works toward a permanent exit through impeachment, reports CBS News correspondent Dean Reynolds. – from CBSnews
A spokesman for the Supreme Court declined to comment on the request. Made up of seven elected justices, the court is known to be a cautious body that is not keen on injecting itself into political matters. The court has discretion over whether to take up the case. Mr. Blagojevich, a two-term Democrat, and his chief of staff, John Harris, were arrested on Tuesday on charges of conspiracy and soliciting bribes in a sprawling criminal case that involves, among other things, accusations that the two conspired to sell the Senate seat vacated by President-elect Barack Obama. Mr. Harris resigned Friday morning as frantic efforts were under way to force Mr. Blagojevich’s exit, and as new details came to light regarding the possible involvement of associates of Representative Jesse L. Jackson Jr. in deal making to secure his appointment to the seat. – from NYTimes
