The awesomeness that is Veronica Mars may return in a movie

mars

A few years back Rob Thomas created one of the best seasons of TV ever with the first year of Veronica Mars. Kristen Bell was absolutely perfect – adorable, snarky, pissed off, brilliant and marvelously flawed. When Mars was canceled after its third season, Thomas tried to resurrect the series by fast forwarding it five years into the future. No telling if that’s where he’s headed, but let’s hope things come together. Bell is currently on Heroes.

Rob Thomas is ready to write a “Veronica Mars” movie, the series creator told the Television Critics Association press tour crowd on Friday (Jan. 16). Thomas, on hand to promote his ABC midseason remake of “Cupid,” lamented that the series has only been ordered for eight episodes this spring, but explained to reporters that the reduced load will allow him to finally write the long-rumored (hoped for?) adaptation of his beloved (and barely watched) UPN and CW series. “I know this happened acrossthe board, so we don’t take it personally, but that we were reduced from 13 episodes to 8 episodes,” Thomas said. “But what that does mean for me is that I have a couple months to write the ‘Veronica Mars’ movie.” – From HitFix

At the tail end of this winter’s television critic’s event, Rob Thomas, who has resurrected his 1998 TV series CUPID for another go-around on ABC, announced that he’s currently working on a VERONICA MARS feature film (based on his short-lived UPN/CW show), now that his new series order has been reduced from thirteen episodes to eight episodes. “That means I have time to write the VERONICA MARS movie,” he says. “But my writing the movie is half the battle. Someone else has to pay for it. Joel Silver does have a certain pile of money. He called on me saying ‘Can we do this now?’ Kristen wants to do it. Joel wants to do it and I want to do it. For me, that’s the next project.” – From iFMagazine

Itchy journalists watching Rob Thomas present his Cupid remake had to ask: Is there going to be a Veronica Mars movie. Yes! Thomas reported that he and Mars star Kristen Bell are both in: “For me, that’s the next project [after Cupid]. But my writing it is really just half the battle,” he said. “Somebody has to pay for it.” Thomas indicated that producer Joel Silver is ready to green-light the film. Coupled with Thomas’ obvious enthusiasm for the project, perhaps we won’t have to wait too long to see a big-screen continuation of the story of the teen detective. – From TV Guide
