Updated: this rumor, which started on the radio, has been verified as not true from Mr. Swayze’s representation (too bad they didn’t return our calls). This morning our inbox was inundated with email messages from reliable sources stating that indeed he passed away, which is the reason we stated this was a “tip” and with a question mark.

Breaking: we’ve been receiving this tip from multiple sources, that actor Patrick Swayze has passed away at the young age of 57. The star of Dirty Dancing and Ghost had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and given a 5% chance to survive. Last seen in Los Angeles, the former buff actor had shrunk down to 105lbs due to his chemotherapy treatment. In an interview with Barbara Walters earlier this year, Swayze admitted to being scared and asking “why me?” We have placed many calls in to his representation — and our hearts are with his family. More on this as this story is breaking…

Patrick Swayze is well known in his roles as Dirty Dancing, Ghost, and Road House. Even his younger days of starring in Red Dawn as Jed Eckert, which was presented to the public in 1984 was an outstanding film starring C. Thomas Howell, which they became buddies during the filming of “Outsiders” in 1983. Swayze was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in late January 2008, and has undergone chemotherapy and other treatments at the Stanford University Medical Center. Specifically, Swayze was diagnosed with a type of pancreatic tumor called Intraductal Papillary Mucinous Neoplasm (IPMN). n early May 2008, it was widely reported in a number of tabloids that Swayze had undergone surgery to remove part of his stomach after the spread of the cancer and that he had rewritten his will, transferring his property to his wife. As of April 19, 2009, doctors have told Swayze that the cancer has now spread to his liver.
