G-Force topples Harry Potter at Box Office

Despite terrible reviews, both G-Force and The Ugly Truth debuted this weekend with strong takes. G-Force, about an elite team of guinea pigs, topped Harry Potter with a $32 million take. The Ugly Truth did well with $27 million. Potter conjured up $30 million – a steep drop, which doesn’t bode well for word-of-mouth on the film. The only other new release was the horror flick, Orphan, which took in almost $13 million, a bit better than expected.
In other news, Transformers, the Hangover and the Proposal all near milestones. Transformers will likely hit the $400 million mark by the end of the summer, while The Hangover is still going strong, an will break the $250 million mark next week – a true smash hit considering the lack of budget, marketing and stars. The Proposal will top $150 million in two weeks, making it another surprise hit. Ice Age 3 will top $175 million next week, but will struggle to hit the $200 million – but it will come close. The franchise is going strong.
Johnny Depp’s Public Enemies will be out of the top 10 next week, and it won’t make the coveted $100 million mark. Watch for good video sales on this one.
In what really can only be classified as a bomb, Bruno was 10th this week, drawing less than $3 million in tickets. The film will max out at $60 million.
