Angelina Jolie in Patricia Cornwell’s Dr. Kay Scarpetta movie adaptation series
Angelina Jolie, Fox 2000 and author Patricia Cornwell are teaming up for a killer deal. The studio is acquiring screen rights to Cornwell’s bestselling book series on medical examiner Dr. Kay Scarpetta, to develop as a vehicle for Jolie. There are 16 Scarpetta novels, meaning a franchise is hoped for, but this film won’t be tied to a specific Cornwell mystery title. Much the way that Jason Bourne morphed into an action hero in plots not rigidly locked into the Robert Ludlum book series, the opera-loving coroner Scarpetta will be the lead in a suspense thriller in the vein of “The Silence of the Lambs” and “Seven.” Deal is a mega-marriage, with Jolie one of the most bankable female movie stars, and Cornwell one of the biggest selling female authors in the world. Cornwell, whose latest installment “Scarpetta” was published last December by Putnam, last year made a deal with Lifetime Television to adapt two non-Scarpetta novels, “At Risk” and “The Front.” – from Variety

Jolie couldn’t be more different from Scarpetta. She is tall and beautiful whereas Scarpetta is short, petite, blond and about 45?

I’m quite disappointed with her being in this movie. I always thought that Kay Scarpetta would be someone with much more elegance like Annette Benning. I never thought they casted for this movie. I think Angelina Jolie is a fantastic actress just not for this part. I hope this movie doesn’t let the fans down.

If all of this is true. Angelina is such a terrible choice for this role. die hard fans of Cornwell and Scarpetta will be thoroughly disappointed. Angelina may be a good actress, but for this role she would never pull it off.

I found the perfect actess to play Scarpetta, Elizabeth Mitchell. She plays/played Juliette on Lost and is currently an FBI agent on the new show V. Except for the fact that she seems taller than Scarpetta’s character is described, she fits the profile perfectly.

I can’t think of a worse person to play the part of Kay Scarpetta. Did the casting director even read these books?! Scarpetta is a woman who has lived a hard life. She’s on the tail end of 40 with no children of her own, a job that consumes her and has taken its toll on her emotionally and physically.
She is NOT some tall, dark haired, sloe eyed young woman who could make men drop dead at her feet if she ever decided to grace them with her pressence in their life.
Jolie has too much blatent sexuality about her to carry this charecter off. Bad choice.

sorry but i have to agree… bad choice. beautiful woman but very bad casting. i personally see Kyra Sedgewick as Scarpetta, attractive but not stunning… blond, not too tall, etc…
